About the Quuquuatsa Language Society

VISION: Our vision is to have a fluent Nuu-chah-nulth society/community.

MISSION: We plan, advocate, and work to rebuild practices of speaking, thinking, hearing, seeing and dreaming in the Nuu-chah-nulth languages through preserving, learning and teaching.

We want to support all interested learners to celebrate & speak Nuu-chah-nulth languages & use it in every day life. Join us on the journey of embracing Nuu-chah-nulth in our home, schools and work.

About Quuquuatsa

Quuquuatsa was established in 2012 and has been focused on implementing the motto “‘Language first in home, school and work”.

The Board of Directors are enthusiastic language activists that are involved in Nuuchahnulth language and cultural activities in their own communities. Activities have been limited as we have no employees. Any projects or administration are done by volunteers.

We have support from Nuuchahnulth nations and organizations like the Port Alberni Friendship Centre. We have approximately 8 fluent speakers that participate in classes and language circles when they can.

Our standing in the community and with NIC and UVic is positive. We are the only organization focused on Nuuchahnulth language revitalization and consistently delivering language classes open to all.

Quuquuatsa’s Purpose

The purposes of the society are:

(3) To advocate and seek funding for the above methods to achieve fluency on behalf of interested Nuu chah nulth people
